The FMB is a trade association that promotes professionalism and high quality workmanship among small and medium-sized building firms throughout the UK.

Only builders and specialists who can prove their skills and good business standing are accepted as members of the FMB, and the Federation logo on builders' vans and stationery is widely accepted as the hallmark of a builder who takes pride in the quality of his work, and who matches it with an equally well-run business.

Builders must meet certain specified criteria to become members of the FMB. They must provide six references of recently completed jobs, giving the contract values and dates. They must have Liability Insurance and they must have been trading for over a year.

Members must agree to adhere to the FMB Code of Practice.
